Space to Place

New Beginnings CDC is excited about the transformation of Sasser Park.  After 4 years of advocating for change, we finally see the results.  What was once a space with limited use is now a place where families can connect, recreate, and enjoy healthy activities.  Now that the park has been reimagined, we are excited about all of the impactful activities and programming that is yet to come.  Our team has been committed to the Moross-Morang Neighborhood since 2009 and we will continue to show up, speak up, and step up to promote equity and wellbeing, and provide service commensurate with the needs of the community.  We hope that we can count on the community residents, leadership, and stakeholders to support positive change in our community's narrative.

NATIONAL OLDER AMERICANS MONTH

New Beginnings CDC supported National Older Americans Month by hosting a Meet and Greet on May 6th for the senior adults in our community. It was a pleasure to acknowledge the contributions, past and present, of the older community members. We were honored to host an event for seniors to connect and enjoy good food, good fellowship, and essential resources.

Community Cleanup 2023 was a success.  There were fewer workers this year but New Beginnings CDC (NBCDC) along with volunteers showed up and stepped up.  Again, our team tackled the Moross Boulevard between I-94 and Kelly Rd.  We continue to demonstrate the importance of a clean and safe community while providing community service opportunities for those who need or want them.  A Special thanks to New Beginnings Community Church and everyone who supported the efforts!

LATEST NEWS

In May, New Beginnings CDC had the opportunity to make a difference at our local school (Carleton Elementary). We started the month appreciating the teachers as we recognize that
they play a significant role in helping to enrich and transform the lives of students. We also
facilitated access to Detroit Tigers Tickets for the staff, students, and family members –
providing a fellowship opportunity to create bonds that build family and community.

New Beginnings CDC hosted the Morang Small Business Resource Fair on April  3, 2023 in collaboration with Yorkshire Woods Community Organization, and Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) District 4 Liaison.  Businesses along the Morang corridor were offered an overview of local resources available to entrepreneurs and small businesses while also providing them with a casual networking opportunity to meet with local leaders and non-profits.

National Nutrition Month

New Beginnings CDC (NBCDC) honored National Nutrition Month with the Staff and families of Carleton Elementary School.  Families received educational material about making informed food choices and developing healthful eating and physical activity habits, as well as eating with sustainability in mind.  Each family received a bag of groceries containing healthy snacking options for the kids.
